Regional Vice President, Central and Eastern Europe, Silica

Karl-Heinz Weigl was appointed Regional Vice President, Central and Eastern Europe, Silica in June 2001. Responsible for growing the Silica business in this region, Karl reports directly to Miguel Fernandez, President of Silica.

Karl-Heinz joins Silica from Philips Semiconductors where he held the position of Director of Distribution and Emerging Markets in Europe for three years. In this role, he was instrumental in assisting Philips to become the number one supplier of components for core and industrial business within European distribution. During this time Philips' turnover in semiconductor distribution grew by 65 per cent.

An 18-year veteran of the electronics industry, Karl began his career with Siemens as a hardware development engineer. He then spent 13 years with Intel, starting out as a Technical Marketing Engineer for Bubble memories in 1985, and progressing to the position of Customer Operations Manager, Europe.

Karl-Heinz graduated from Munich University in 1983 with a degree in Electronic Engineering. He resides in Germany with his wife and two children.
