President, Silica

Miguel Fernandez, a 25-year veteran of the electronics industry, was appointed President of Silica, an Avnet Electronics Marketing (EM) company in Europe, in September 2002. He reports to Patrick Zammit, President of Avnet EM EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa).

Miguel has been with Avnet since early 2000, when Avnet acquired the SEI group. Since February 2001 he has served as Chief of Staff for Avnet EM EMEA, responsible for IT, Business Processes and Quality. Before this, he was Avnet EM EMEA’s Group Information Officer.

At SEI, Miguel was the company’s Executive Vice President, a member of the European Managing Board, and Chief of the Executive Staff. He oversaw the SEI business in Iberia as well as the European-wide implementation of the then new IT system at SEI.

Miguel started to work in distribution as early as 1979 and joined Sonepar, the parent company of the later SEI group, in 1983. His early positions included HF design engineer with a subsidiary of AEG and a lecturer at the University of Madrid.

Miguel (55) holds a postgraduate degree in telecom engineering from the Polytechnical University of Madrid and a MBA from the University of Navarra. He is married with 3 children and resides in Spain.
