CCS v4.x - Code Composer Studio v4

TIS CCSv4 iconJust imagine: Starting a new design based on DSP, and you only have used MSP430 before. Yes, the technology is vastly different and the design will also challenge you. But the software you have been using for your MSP430 device, will still look familiar. - Quite a comfort based on today’s design cycle challenges and the need to produce defect free designs, first time. Your MCU design is running out of steam in today’s “high bandwidth” environment. You need higher performance, no problem: Just select a higher performance part in the product range or, if you need to “upgrade” to a MPU or DSP device instead, well still no problem on the IDE front.

CCS v4 also fixes some of the issues you would normally face with IDEs:
You have a large selection of features in your IDE, but how do you get all that information in the screen so you can actually see it? This IDE allows you to select what you actually want to “see” at exactly the time you want to see it.

Typically you have more than one project at a time, with each project being at a different stage in development and often using different versions of compile tools or operating systems, how can you cope? CCS v4 allows you to set the version of the compiler and DSP/BIOS that each individual project will use allowing projects in maintenance mode to continue to use the tools they were deployed with and enabling new projects to use the latest high performance tools.

Description

Code Composer Studio v4 (CCS v4) is the Integrated Development Environment  (IDE) for TI's DSPs, microcontrollers and application processors.

Code Composer Studio includes a suite of tools used to develop and debug embedded applications. It includes compilers for each of TI's device families, source code editor, project build environment, debugger, profiler, simulators and many other features. The CCS IDE provides a single user interface taking you through each step of the application development flow. Familiar tools and interfaces allow users to get started faster than ever before and add functionality to their application thanks to sophisticated productivity tools.

As of version 4 CCS is based on the Eclipse open source software framework. The Eclipse software framework is used for many different applications but it was originally developed as an open framework for creating development tools. Eclipse offers an excellent software framework for building software development environments and is becoming a standard framework used by many embedded software vendors. CCS combines the advantages of the Eclipse software framework with advanced embedded debug capabilities from Texas Instruments resulting in a compelling feature rich development environment for embedded developers.
